Yorkminster Park Meals on Wheels has been serving the North Toronto area since 1966. With the help of our community and many volunteers, we are able to provide meals to elderly, disabled and chronically ill residents.
Meals on Wheels delivers Monday to Friday every week, with optional weekend service available. Delivery takes place in the mornings, between 11am and 12:30pm. The food is delivered by our friendly volunteers, who are the backbone of our organization. If they are unable to reach the client, they report back and we ALWAYS follow-up if we cannot deliver a meal. In this way, Meals on Wheels also serves as a daily security check.
Hot meals consist of soup, a protein (meat, chicken or fish), two vegetables, a starch (potato, rice or occasionally pasta), two slices of bread and a dessert. In the summer, a cold salad is served once a week. The menu choices are fixed on a 4 week rotation. We also cater to various dietary restrictions.
Frozen meals are also available. They come in packages of 5 or 7 dinners and are delivered once a week. These meals can be heated in a microwave or a regular oven. Orders must be recieved by the office by Thursday at 4:30pm for delivery the following Wednesday or Thursday. A menu is available so each client can choose their own meals.
Billing is done at the end of each month. Bills are hand delivered by the volunteers. Payments can be mailed or given to the volunteers.
